US background check help center.

Guidance for employers and candidates using DigiVerifier LLC for US background checks, including FCRA authorization, candidate data collection, verification research, report delivery, adverse action support and dispute resolution.

Getting started

Start a US screening request.

Every US background check begins with order initiation, disclosure, authorization and secure candidate data collection.

Create requests

Select the screening package for the role, such as criminal, employment, education, identity, credit, drug, MVR or professional license verification.

Disclosure and authorization

Before checks run, candidates receive a written disclosure and sign an authorization form. These are required steps under the FCRA.

Data collection

Candidates provide details such as identity information, employment history, education history, license data or documents required for the selected checks.

Verification research

DigiVerifier researches records, contacts sources directly where needed, runs database queries and compiles results for quality review.

Review reports

Completed reports show a clear status for each check, including confirmed results, discrepancies or items that could not be verified.

Your data and privacy

Candidates can dispute information they believe is wrong. DigiVerifier re-investigates disputed items and updates the report when a dispute is valid.

Verification process

The US BGV process, explained.

A typical screening order moves through order initiation, candidate consent, data collection, research, quality review, report delivery, adverse action support and dispute resolution.

What checks does DigiVerifier LLC support in the US?

The US process includes criminal background checks, employment verification, education verification, credit checks, drug screening, motor vehicle records, identity verification and professional license verification.

What does the FCRA require before a check runs?

The candidate must receive a written disclosure and sign an authorization form before DigiVerifier collects information or runs the requested checks.

How long do US background checks take?

Identity checks can be instant or same business day. Criminal checks often take 1 to 3 business days. Employment and education checks commonly take 2 to 5 business days, and drug screening negatives often return in 24 to 72 hours.

Why was I contacted as a candidate?

An employer or hiring organization has initiated a background check. DigiVerifier may contact you to provide the required disclosure, collect authorization, request information or ask for supporting documents.

What can delay a verification?

Delays may occur when candidate details are incomplete, an employer or school is slow to respond, a courthouse requires manual research, a drug screen needs MRO review, or state-specific reporting rules require additional compliance review.

Can candidates dispute report information?

Yes. Candidates can dispute information they believe is inaccurate or incomplete. DigiVerifier re-investigates disputed items and corrects the report when the dispute is valid.

Technical questions

Employer operations and troubleshooting.

Prepare the screening package for each role, confirm which role-specific checks are appropriate and identify who will review discrepancies.

What should we prepare before implementation?

Prepare your screening policy, role types, expected volume, check packages, report reviewers, candidate communication ownership and any HR system integration requirements.

What if document upload fails?

Retry with a clear file in the requested format. If the issue continues, contact support with the candidate name, email and company requesting verification.

What if a report is not visible?

Confirm the request is complete and that the right user is checking the case. If it is still missing, contact support with the request details.

What if an employer is considering adverse action?

If an employer is considering rejection based on a report, the FCRA process requires pre-adverse action steps, including giving the candidate a copy of the report and the Summary of Rights before a final adverse action notice.
